Road building programme to affect local businesses?

Sunday, 27 Sep 2009

Cautious good news that 'the road that goes no where' may be finished in the next couple of years? I am referring to the Airport link road that branches from the A6 by-pass (not approved) to travel across country and join the short stretch of dual carriage way outside Bramhall and continues to the old A34. It will then cut through the land being used by Airport Parks and Styal Golf Club to join the M56 at Manchester Airport.

Assuming the project isn't cancelled after the next General Election, road contractors will see an improvement in business, the presence of the contractors in the area will improve the prospects of some service industries such as fast food restaurants and perhaps plant hire?

At present some of the traffic destined for airport passes through a congested Heald Green, much to the annoyance of local residents. However, to some degree, passing traffic will inevitably increase trade . Will a reduction in traffic levels through Heald Green improve the ambience of the place and therefore attract more business, for example retails or will Heald Green business prospects decline in the same way that Long Lane's trade dropped off following the completion of the by-pass?
